AO and 3i Partner in New Research Grant
The Academy of Osseointegration is pleased to announce a new $15,000
research grant funded by 3i, Implant
Innovation, Inc. The purpose
of this grant is to provide support for research in the behavioral,
biologic, biomechanical or biomaterial aspects of dental implants.
Applicants that address areas of research to enhance the public acceptance
of implants are welcome. Eligibility is restricted to AO members
who are able to demonstrate they are capable of conducting research
that meets the primary objective of this award. There is no age or
citizenship requirement. The grant funds are to be used only for
direct support of the proposed research such as technical assistance,
supplies, purchasing and/or maintaining laboratory animals, purchase
of relevant equipment and instruments, data analysis, preparation
of manuscripts and travel to professional meetings related to the
project. The deadline for submission is October 31, 2003. The recipient
of this award will be notified by January 1, 2004, and will be required
to submit a progress report on or before September 1, 2004. The awardee
is required to present the results of the investigation at the 20th
AO Annual Meeting, March 10 –12, 2005, in Orlando, Florida.
Travel expenses (airfare, ground transportation, lodging) will be
provided by the Academy. For additional information contact the Executive
Offices of the Academy at (847) 439-1919.
Charitable Grant Program
Each year the Osseointegration Foundation shall
make available ten (10) grants of up to $4,000 for subsidizing
the care of eligible
individuals. Each grant will be issued upon completion of those portions
of the case “when the intended function result is completed,” but
prior to the required three-year follow-up. This grant does not restrict
how or where these funds are to be allocated by the service provider,
as long as the entire grant is spent directly on patient care and
treatment in the domain of osseointegration. Under no circumstances
will the patient receiving care through this grant program be charged
by the providers for any services rendered.
Both care providers and corporate partners may use participation
in this program for public relation purposes.
Additionally, participants in the grant program,
including both care providers and corporate partners, will receive
narrative recognition
at all opportunities (i.e. at official Academy meetings), and visual
recognition in several forums: the Academy of Osseointegration’s
newsletter, Academy News; the Academy Bulletin Board in the International
Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants; the Osseointegration
Foundation Report.

Implant Research Grant
One research grant up to ten thousand dollars ($10,000) is awarded
annually to an individual in any dental academic institution accredited
by the American Dental Association.
This grant has been funded to support scientific investigation
in the field of dental implants. The grant is administered through
the
Osseointegration Foundation.
