Risk Factors
Myron Nevins, DDS
The success of osseointegration has expanded to include the partially edentulous patient and has been amplified by a variety of osteogenic procedures to increase the bone volume. However, the debate continues as to whether similar efficacy can be achieved for the partially edentulous, periodontally compromised patients who demonstrate previous bone loss.
Treatment Planning Failures
Nicholas Elian, DDS
The introduction of osseointegrated dental implants as a restorative option in the treatment of fully and partially edentulous patients has proven to be a highly successful means of dental rehabilitation. Treatment planning for the placement and restoration of osseointegrated dental implants involves the consideration of many variables. This presentation will present the essential parameters necessary for the diagnosis, treatment planning, and integration of implant restorations in order to achieve successful rehabilitation of patients.
Soft Tissue Esthetic Failures
Bobby L. Butler, DDS
They say "bone sets the tone" but maybe "the tissue is the issue" with esthetic implant cases. It's really an equal balance of bone and soft tissue that must be present for ideal long-term results. This presentation will discuss several cases that have resulted in cosmetic failures and what steps can be taken to correct these deficiences.
Hard Tissue Failure
Donald S. Clem III, DDS
This presentation will present case studies on a variety of hard tissue complications that challenge the clinician. These hard tissue failures can occur prior to, at the time of, or after implant placement. Solutions designed to mitigate the effects of hard tissue failures will be presented and considerations to prevent them in the future will be discussed.
Restorative Failures
Michael R. Norton, BDS, FDS, RCS
The case presented will show the total failure of a maxillary nonresilient overdenture retained on a milled bar. This case is of interest because the patient's mandibular implants supported a fully fixed hybrid denture, and for this prosthesis and its supporting implants, no such catastrophe was evident.
Esthetic Failures Caused by Implant Malpositions
Daniel Buser, DDS, DMD
Implant therapy in the esthetic zone is mostly challenging
to all clinicians involved, since the slightest error may directly affect appearance. This presentation will comprehensively review potential malpositions of implants and will also focus on the difficulties associated with the handling of defects.
Esthetic Failures
Michael Pikos, DDS
This case study will feature a not too common but potentially debilitating complication of mandibular block bone graft harvesting - mandibular fracture. In this presentation, we will review the occurrence, discuss why it happened as well as what prophylactic measures need to be taken to prevent this complication. A discussion of pertinent anatomic, physiologic and technological ramifications will also be featured.
