NEW! Patient Education Brochures Are Now Available
AO introduces a new series of patient education brochures that have been developed to assist practitioners in explaining the benefits of dental implants. This series of seven fully illustrated pamphlets are designed to better acquaint patients on such topics as what dental implants are and how they are placed; tooth loss; replacing a single tooth, multiple teeth and all teeth; as well as various adjunctive procedures such as bone augmentation, socket preservation, sinus grafting and ridge augmentation grafting. Osseointegration Specialty Symposium Featured at Yankee Dental Congress
AO will sponsor a special symposium "Risk Factor Assessment for Our Patients - What you Need to Know" at the 2012 Yankee Dental Congress, January 25-29 in Boston, MA. Tooth replacement with dental implants is dependent upon appropriate diganosis and treatment planning and is influenced by a thorough assessment of patient specific risk factors, whether they are local or systemic in nature. The success of such therapy is the result of an interdisciplinary therapeutic approach that is discussed in detail during these presentations. Academy of Osseointegration/Osseointegration Foundation 2011-2012 Research Grant Application
This program funds two research grant awards: one in Basic Science (life sciences) and one in Applied Science (inclusive of human subjects) for up to $25,000 each. The objective of these grants is to provide support for research in the basic, clinical and behavioral science aspects of dental implants. NEW! Find a Dentist Search Engine Added to Website
The AO website now gives patients the ability to search for dental implant specialists in their localities. By clicking on the "Find a Dentist' graphic (left side of home page and on all Patient Care web pages), patients will be able to enter a zip code (US) or postal code (internationally) to search in every country represented by AO membership. This newest benefit to AO members will provide name, address and business phone number in each search result. Members who have practice websites are strongly encouraged to include this information on their member profiles as Members' websites will also be displayed and set as live links on search results. AO members who do not wish to participate in the Find a Dentist program can contact AO to opt out.
Nobel Biocare Brånemark Osseointegration Award Presented
Daniel van Steenberghe, MD, DDS, PhD, becomes the fourth recipient of the Osseointegration Foundation's Nobel Biocare Brånemark Osseointegration Award. OF President Dr. James H. Doundoulakis, New York, NY, presented the award Thursday, March 3, at the close of the 2011 Annual Meeting Opening Ceremony.
